Laptop:

To type the symbols on a laptop, press Alt+Fn+code on the numeric keypad (If it doesn’t work, you may need to press alt+Num Lock button first) and then release all keys.

On laptops, the numeric keypad keys are “7″, “8″, “9″, “u”, “i”, “o”, “j”, “k”, “l” and “m” buttons.

Desktop:

To type the symbols on a desktop, enable the numlock, press Alt+ code on the numeric keypad and then release all keys.

Mac:

You cannot input Alt codes on Macintosh using alt codes, but you can use a standard built-in program called “Keyboard viewer”. It displays an on-screen keyboard with many characters.

In order to enable “Keyboard viewer” program on Mac computer:

1. Select Apple menu > System Preferences and click International.
2. Click Input Menu, then choose the check-box next to Keyboard Viewer.
3. Select the “on” check-box next to language whose keyboard layout you want to use.
4. Select Show Keyboard Viewer from the Input menu on the right side of the menu.

Now a flag will be in the menu bar based on the language you selected. To type a special character, click the flag and select “Show Keyboard Viewer”. When you press Shift and Option buttons, the on-screen keyboard will show up.
Therefore on a Mac you don’t even need a list of Alt codes. But remember, you can always just come to this website to copy and paste from the Alt Symbols listed below.

LINUX:

1. Press Ctrl+Shift+U
2. Release “U” key.
3. Enter Unicode symbol’s hex code. Unicode codes can be found here (http://unicode.org/charts/)
